BIRMINGHAM, Ala., May 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Vulcan Materials Company (NYSE:VMC) has named new Division presidents for its Southern & Gulf Coast Division, headquartered in Birmingham, and its Central Division, headquartered in Nashville.
Jerry F. Perkins, Jr., General Counsel and Corporate Secretary has been named to the position of President, Southern & Gulf Coast Division, effective May 1. In his new role, Mr. Perkins will have senior management responsibility for the Division, which covers the Company's construction materials businesses in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the Panhandle of Florida. The Southern & Gulf Coast Division is one of seven of Vulcan's domestic Construction Materials Divisions.
Also effective May 1, Christy Alvord assumes the role of President, Central Division. The Central Division encompasses Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois and Arkansas. Ms. Alvord formerly held the position of President, Southern & Gulf Coast Division.
Mr. Perkins served as general counsel and corporate secretary beginning in 2015, and prior to that time as assistant general counsel and corporate secretary. Before joining Vulcan in 2002, he worked as a certified public accountant (CPA) at a global accounting firm and was an attorney with Burr & Forman LLP in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Perkins has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Alabama and received a law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. He currently serves on the boards of the Birmingham YMCA and Birmingham Zoo.
Ms. Alvord has served as president of the Southern & Gulf Coast Division since 2017 and prior to that time served as vice president of corporate planning and performance improvement. Before joining Vulcan in 2016, Ms. Alvord held various executive management positions across the United States at GE Aviation, including serving as president of GE Aviation-Unison Industries and GE Aviation-Middle River Aircraft Systems. She earned an MBA from Harvard University and holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
