SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Vubiquity, the largest global provider of multiplatform video services, today introduced its AdVU™ Metadata Conversion service, which converts CableLabs 1.1 standard metadata to the more robust 3.0 standard. This move allows service providers to take advantage of the automated placement opportunity capabilities of 3.0 for dynamic ad insertion (DAI), without requiring content providers to change any of their processes. Vubiquity is currently testing the service with a number of MSOs.

The CableLabs 3.0 specification supports metadata that can automate processes associated with dynamically placing ads in VOD assets, making it easier to monetize free VOD.
AdVU Metadata Conversion allows content providers to leverage the capabilities of the CableLabs 3.0 spec without changing their existing workflows. Vubiquity can ingest from multiple metadata sources, map and normalize for distribution. On the service provider side, Vubiquity can support the many ecosystem participants who must employ the appropriate asset and ad metadata. Ad-enabled assets are identified and processed with CableLabs Metadata 3.0 in DAI-ready environments, while those service providers who have not yet deployed DAI systems will continue to receive the traditional CableLabs Metadata 1.1 version of the same shows.
"The path to enabling a commercial deployment of VOD DAI hasn't been easy," said Jim Riley, Vubiquity's chief revenue officer. "But as we near that objective, by providing an easy transition to 3.0 metadata, we are enabling a big leap forward for our network partners and those leading MVPDs who are rolling out DAI systems."
Riley added, "Every day, more consumers are viewing their favorite programs via set-top box VOD; the time has come to capture revenue from those ever expanding views. This will help our partners to reach that potential."
The introduction of AdVU Metadata Conversion extends Vubiquity's suite of dynamic ad insertion services. The company launched the AdVU Placement Opportunity Information Service (POIS) and stream conditioning services during Q4 2012 and provides a range of managed services designed to help monetize video assets. Vubiquity accepts pre-marked and un-marked video assets, based on content partner requirements. With the addition of AdVU Metadata Conversion to its suite of services, Vubiquity can now accept data in virtually any format provided by service and content providers, and create a CableLabs Metadata 3.0 file to take advantage of DAI to further monetize video assets. This approach helps hasten the broader adoption of DAI while leveraging existing content and service provider processes.
