VR Technology Takes Center Stage at the 119th Canton Fair
GUANGZHOU, China, May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Virtual reality (VR) technology took center stage at the 119th Canton Fair, which came to a successful conclusion on May 5, 2016 in Guangzhou, China.
Making its first appearance as a trading item at the Canton Fair, VR tech attracted significant attention in the Consumer Electronics and Information Products Zone, one of the core exhibition zones of the Fair, with exhibits covering computers, power sources and audio visual and digital entertainment products.
The VR equipment on display was mostly hardware in the form of glasses, treadmills and headsets, with many booths also providing experience stands for clients to experience the products. A VR game treadmill, for example, is composed of the base, sensor and VR headset, which together create an all-round experience that immerses the player in the game environment.
Although most of the VR exhibits at the 119th Canton Fair were entertainment products, as this remains the best known application for the technology, as a computer simulation system which creates a brand new interaction experience through replicating a 3D environment, VR has been widely applied in the military, entertainment, medical science and education industries.
Commenting on the popularity of VR at the show, Liu Quandong, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Canton Fair, said, "VR has been trending globally over recent years and according to the VR White Paper from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, the overall industry scale of the VR market in China is currently RMB1.54 billion (USD240 million). This is estimated to reach RMB5.66 billion (USD871 million) in 2016, and to exceed RMB55 billion (USD8.46 billion) by 2020. The global market is, of course, even larger."
"To help our partners and buyers to explore this potential market, Canton Fair will be committed to providing a dialogue platform for global VR enterprises, as a means to enhance communication efficiency."
Going forward, Canton Fair will offer more resources and support to the VR tech field through its Product Design and Trade Promotion Center (PDC), which will invite well-known global design institutions to the Fair and provide a higher standard of design services to help technology companies create even better VR products.
