Vonage Mobile Surpasses One Million Downloads, Highlighting Progress in Mobile and International Long Distance Calling
Additionally, Extensions Exceeds 500,000 Users
HOLMDEL, N.J., April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Highlighting the company's progress in mobile services and international long distance calling, Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG) today announced key milestones for its Vonage Mobile® and Extensions™ products. Launched in February 2012, the Vonage Mobile app has surpassed one million downloads. The app, available for iPhone® and Android™, lets users make free calls and send free texts over Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G between app users around the world (1). For calling those who do not yet have the app, Vonage Mobile provides ultra-low cost international calling with rates that are on average 70% less than major mobile carriers and 30% less than Skype™ (2).
The company also announced that more than 500,000 customers have signed up for the Vonage Extensions product. Extensions broadens the benefits of the company's service beyond the walls of the home to any other phone, including mobile, for no additional cost. (3)
"With Vonage Extensions and Vonage Mobile, we are demonstrating tangible progress in executing against our mobile strategy," said Marc Lefar, Vonage Chief Executive Officer. "More than 15% of Vonage's international calling minutes now originate from mobile devices. This has grown from a base that was negligible just nine months ago before these two mobile products were introduced. In the coming months, we expect to continue to add new capabilities to Vonage Mobile, and expand our products to meet customers' mobile communication needs."
Vonage is continually improving the Vonage Mobile app to enhance ease of use and performance, and plans to provide additional features in the coming months, including MMS, Bluetooth™ functionality and a low-cost international roaming capability.
