Vonage Granted Three New Patents
Company Doubles Number of Patents in 2013
HOLMDEL, N.J., Dec. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG), a leading provider of communication services connecting people through cloud-connected devices worldwide, today announced that it was granted three new patents in December by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,600,364, "Systems and Methods for Terminating Telephony Communications to Mobile Telephony Devices," issued December 3, relates to a system that automatically activates a call forwarding feature based on the customer's location, enabling low-cost incoming calls on mobile phones while traveling internationally. This is Vonage's second patent relating to its international roaming solution. U.S. Pat. No. 8,571,060, covering other aspects of the solution, issued on October 29, 2013.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,605,682, "Systems and Methods for Handoff of a Mobile Telephone Call in a VoIP Environment," issued today, provides a solution for avoiding the disconnection of a voice-over-IP call when the mobile user moves between coverage areas of different wireless networks. This is Vonage's second mobile handoff patent; an earlier patent, U.S. Pat. No. 8,223,720, issued on July 17, 2012.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,606,246, "Systems and Methods for Providing Telephony Services," also issued today, enables a customer to conveniently purchase a telephone service plan through a third-party merchant such as the Apple® App Store and Google® Play, without having to enter into a separate financial transaction with the services provider itself. Vonage was previously issued another patent relating to the purchase of services plans through an app store, U.S. Pat. No. 8,401,528, issued on March 19, 2013.
"Our most recent patents showcase our innovative solutions in mobile telecommunications and reflect our ongoing focus on achieving lower costs, improved quality, and enhanced ease-of-use for our customers," said Chief Legal Officer, Kurt M. Rogers. "We are pleased with the continued strong growth in our patent portfolio. In 2013, we doubled our number of U.S. patents and nearly doubled the number of pending U.S. applications."
Vonage was granted 18 U.S. patents and filed more than 90 U.S. patent applications in 2013. The company now owns 36 U.S. patents and has more than 210 U.S. patent applications pending, along with many foreign patents and pending applications in jurisdictions worldwide.
