Vonage Granted Three More Patents
Company Now Holds 30 U.S. Patents
HOLMDEL, N.J., Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG), a leading provider of communication services connecting people through cloud-connected devices worldwide, today announced that it was granted three new patents in October by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,571,060, "Systems and Methods for Terminating Telephony Communications to Mobile Telephony Devices," relates to a system that activates a call forwarding feature to enable low-cost incoming calls on mobile phones while travelling internationally.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,571,191, "Method and Apparatus for New Subscriber Access to Telephony Features," was issued for a solution that provides an efficient way for distributing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services on a variety of platforms and communications devices. When a consumer wishes to download a VoIP communications app, this technology recognizes attributes of the user's device – for example, whether it is an iPhone®, Android™ or other device – and will automatically provide a link to the most compatible version of the app.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,553,570, "Systems and Methods of Routing IP Telephony Packet Communications," covers advanced call routing techniques that ensure the path for a call meets specific requirements including call quality, encryption and conferencing. The call path is automatically and seamlessly modified to route through equipment that can support the requirements of the call, resulting in greater consistency and quality of service for consumers. The patented technology is particularly beneficial in situations where network conditions worsen during the call, which otherwise would result in a noticeable drop in quality.
"We are pleased that the Patent Office has issued the '060 patent, our first patent relating to our international roaming solution," said Chief Legal Officer Kurt M. Rogers. "This patent, along with additional pending applications related to our roaming solution, will be integral in protecting our investment in technology innovation and development. The '191 and '570 patents also cover valuable features that reflect our continued focus on mobile VoIP and service quality improvements."
Vonage has been granted 12 patents and filed more than 80 patent applications in 2013. The company now has 30 U.S. patents and more than 200 U.S. patent applications pending, along with many foreign patents and pending applications in jurisdictions worldwide.
