Volunteers Honored for Their Service to Courage Center
MINNEAPOLIS, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Courage Center volunteers, family members and employees gathered on Tuesday, April 27, for the 2010 Volunteer Milestone Awards and Dessert Buffet. The annual event at Courage Center Golden Valley honors volunteers who have reached volunteer service milestones of 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,500 hours during their career, as well as other special volunteer contributions. Courage Center's Volunteer Services Recognition Committee thanks our 2,248 volunteers and the staff who supervise them for their significant contributions to Courage Center programs and clients!
The Malcolm MacKay Tree of Life Award* was presented to six volunteers who demonstrated exceptional dedication and loyalty to Courage Center. Award honorees contributed a minimum of 750 hours over a 15-year period and each possesses a welcoming presence – all attributes that the award's namesake, Malcolm MacKay III, brought to his volunteer work. This year's MacKay honorees and their volunteer hours through 2009 hours are:
Rose Becker, Fridley; 1,446 hours |
Scott Olson, Shoreview; 2,529 hours |

Becker volunteers with the martial arts, swimming, yoga and the ski and snowboard programs. |
Olson volunteers as a ski instructor and as a Ski and Snowboard program board member, in addition to the waterskiing and handcycling programs. |

Harvey Djerf, Plymouth; 1,248 hours |
Betty Strong, Stillwater; 1,658 hours |

Strong is a Courage Center St. Croix volunteer who supports the Courage Cards Holiday Shop, the aquatics program, physical therapy and as a Connect with Courage tour guide. |

Troy Kalkwarf, St. Paul; 770 hours |

Kalkwarf volunteers as a ski instructor, and for basketball, softball, aquatics, rugby and physical therapy programs. |

Marilyn Cloutier, Stillwater, was honored with the Pearl Hall Award for her significant and sustained contribution of time, and her unselfish commitment and inspiration to other volunteers. Cloutier has volunteered more than 1,000 hours with Courage Center St. Croix's Health Information Department.

Goodman began volunteering in 2000 and has contributed her talents to Courage Center's social services staff and clients. |
Schafer has volunteered since 1987 in a number of areas, including our inpatient program, Health Information Services, and various special events. |

*Andy Fuller, Minneapolis, 5,000 hours |
*Brenda Bous, Robbinsdale, 15,000 hours |

Fuller has been a volunteer since 1981 including service on Courage Center Board of Directors, Camera Club, Connect with Courage committee and as a tour guide. |
Bous has volunteered since 1986, providing office support for many Courage Center Golden Valley programs and departments. |
