"We take great pride in providing a pleasant environment for our students. And as part of our commitment to Detroit, we want to upgrade the external appearance of the Center," said Diane Renaud, Executive Director/CEO.
As part of Brightmoor Week and Detroit Beautification efforts, volunteers are needed to wash exterior windows, pull weeds, plant and landscape new gardens. Also, donations of perennial plants and landscaping materials are needed. And volunteers or donations will be welcomed throughout the summer.
"Transformation is contagious. By helping improve our neighborhood, volunteers and donors help to improve the quality of life for our students. Something as simple as donating an extra plant when you are doing your own garden, is an easy way to make a difference," said Renaud."
Founded in 1844, the St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center most recently served Southeastern Michigan as a residential/foster care agency for children. However, in 2006, the Center closed its residential campus due to elimination of funding. It was determined that rather than close the doors of the organization, to return to its roots – providing assistance to the residents of the community through educational programs.
St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center moved to Detroit to continue nearly 170 years of service to the community through basic skill-building and academic enhancement for at-risk children and adults. These programs are designed to help build self-sufficiency skills for academic and employment success, personal achievement and dignity.
