Volunteer Opportunities Now Available for the 2010 World Leadership Congress July 23-30 at UCLA
Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Event Expected to Attract 400 Youth Ambassadors from Around the World as Congress Returns to Southern California for the First Time in 25 Years
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Applications are now being accepted for a wide range of volunteer opportunities at the 2010 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership World Leadership Congress to be held July 23-30 at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Now in its 42nd year, the 2010 World Leadership Congress is expected to attract more than 400 youth ambassadors from the United States and at least 15 different countries who will engage in leadership learning and hands-on community service projects. This year marks the international Congress' first return to Southern California in 25 years and the first time UCLA has hosted the event since 1980.
"Volunteering for this event provides individuals the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of youth and helps further instill the importance of service in Congress attendees," said Javier LaFianza, president and CEO of HOBY. "We urge people of all ages to become involved in this gathering, which for both attendees and volunteers has often been called a life-changing event."
For adults age 21 or older, volunteer opportunities are available in information technology, operations, publicity, food and beverage, photography, medical services, transportation and housing, special events, and many other areas. Volunteers of all ages are needed to assist with the day-to-day coordination of activities, and special opportunities are available for high school juniors and recent graduates. A full list of volunteer needs and requirements, along with a volunteer application, is available at www.hoby.org/volunteerforWLC.php.
The 400 students expected to attend the Congress will be drawn from the nearly 9,600 high school students who will attend one of HOBY's 70 leadership seminars being held across the country in the spring. That group will be complemented by international students that help enrich the learning experience of today's global society.
Further information on the 2010 World Leadership Congress or on any of the seminars scheduled for spring 2010 may be obtained at www.hoby.org. For information on sponsorship opportunities or how to become involved, please contact LaFianza directly at [email protected].
