VoltDB Named 2010 Top 10 Open Source Rookie of the Year
Black Duck Software Recognizes VoltDB as Leading Open Source Database
BILLERICA, Mass., Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- VoltDB (www.voltdb.com) has been named one of the top 10 new open source projects for 2010, according to Black Duck Software, a leading provider of solutions for automating the management, governance and secure use of open source software. VoltDB was the only database recognized among the open source leaders in Black Duck's announcement.
"We're very pleased to be recognized as a leading open source provider given all the other compelling projects that launched during 2010," said VoltDB president and CEO Scott Jarr. "Black Duck's recognition acknowledges the growth and momentum we've experienced in our community, and further validates our belief that developers need an open source SQL database that delivers breakthrough performance and scalability."
Working from a list of thousands of new projects launched in 2010, Black Duck evaluated a project's popularity using a weighted scoring system that awards points for commit activity within a project, the number of developers involved, and the number of web sites linked to the project. After auditing its findings and normalizing scores, Black Duck determined the top 10 Rookie projects.
This year's Rookies were drawn from an expanded universe of projects from the Black Duck KnowledgeBase and from Ohloh.net, the web's largest free public directory of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), acquired by Black Duck in September, 2010.
"The 2010 Rookies represent an exciting collection of projects, particularly in support of mobile and cloud applications," said Tim Yeaton, President and CEO, Black Duck Software. "As a top 10 Rookie, VoltDB exhibits the qualities and profile we have found to be critical for early open source project traction."
