BEDFORD, Mass., Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As companies look for new ways to derive value – and drive revenue – from data, the demand for real-time, actionable insights continues to grow. As a result of this need, VoltDB today announced significant momentum in 2014, including 104 percent growth in customer acquisition, 81 percent increase in revenue, 48 percent employee growth, an expanded list of partnerships – including many companies in the Hadoop ecosystem – and "Best in Class" performance as measured by the challenging Yahoo Cloud Serving Benchmark (YCSB).
Industries Drive Demand for Fast Data
Industries such as the Internet of Things and mobile are creating increased demand for real-time applications. As the growth of data presents new opportunities to create business value, companies within these industries are turning to VoltDB and its in-memory database to solve their need for real-time, streaming data (the company currently runs over six billion transactions per day in production).
"Real-time analysis and action underpins our Veris business solution," said Dr. Andy Tiller, VP Global Product Marketing, AsiaInfo. "By integrating VoltDB's real-time analytics and decision-making capability into our product, we have been able to help our operator customers increase revenues, improve consumer engagement and personalize services."
A snapshot of the new customers VoltDB added in 2014 includes Siemens, Mitsubishi, Novatel, Flytxt, deltaDNA and CGI. Below are a few examples of how companies are using VoltDB and fast data:
- Ericsson MediaFirst: Up-to-the-second operational visibility into the performance of systems across customers' carrier-grade TV networks; enabling real-time interactive user experience management.
- MyFox: As IoT expands to people's homes, real-time analysis is improving the effectiveness of home security systems and helping deter home invasions, ensuring accuracy and putting security into the user's hands.
- Snapcard: Real-time bitcoin payment processing – of tens of thousands of daily transactions – and real-time exchange rate collection and analysis.
"This is such an exciting time to be in fast data," said Bruce Reading, President and CEO of VoltDB. "Companies need to take advantage of both fast and big data to extract the most value from their data. As more and more devices are 'connected,' that demand will continue to grow and companies will realize they can not only better meet consumer demand, but also identify new revenue paths – all from data they're generating today."
As part of its growth, VoltDB added the following executives in 2014:
- New Board of Director members: Tom Erickson (Acquia), Patrick Morley (Bit9)
- Peter Vescuso, chief marketing officer
- Scott Powers, chief financial officer
- Shyam Sundar, vice president of sales, Asia-Pacific
Looking ahead in 2015, VoltDB plans to grow its team by 50 percent.
"We are achieving the reality of real-time, instant response to streaming data," said Jason Stamper, 451 Research Analyst. "Real-time data is no longer out of reach for the majority of companies; rather, more businesses are learning they can – and should – leverage the value streaming data delivers."
VoltDB closed out 2014 growing the number of partners by 150 percent, providing global representation in 15 countries, and established formal relationships and certifications with the three main Hadoop companies – Cloudera, MapR and Hortonworks – an important achievement as the need grows across industries for improved integration with the Hadoop ecosystem.
