Volkswagen Passenger Cars: Deliveries After Three Quarters Up 12.3 Percent to 3.81 Million Vehicles
WOLFSBURG, Germany, Oct. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the first three quarters of the year, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has continued to grow deliveries, handing over 3.81 (January – September 2010: 3.39; +12.3 percent) million vehicles to customers. For the month of September, the brand reported 472,100 (September 2010: 415,100; +13.7 percent) deliveries to customers. "The positive development in deliveries by the Volkswagen Brand over the first nine months has been very gratifying," Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
In January to September 2011, Volkswagen Passenger Cars recorded growth on almost all markets. In the Asia/Pacific region, the brand sold 1.44 (1.27; +13.9 percent) million vehicles from January to September. This figure included 1.29 (1.17; +11.0 percent) million units delivered in China, the largest single market. Deliveries in North America also developed very positively. From January to September 2011, Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 362,000 (296,200; +22.2 percent) vehicles to customers in North America. The Jetta and all-new 2012 Passat were key contributors to the region's strong growth in September. In South America, 579,400 (546,400) vehicles were delivered in the same period, representing a rise of 6.1 percent.
In Europe, Volkswagen Passenger Cars also reported growth in deliveries, handing 1.30 (1.18; +9.9 percent) million vehicles over to customers in the first nine months of the year. In the Central and Eastern Europe region, deliveries were up 46.0 percent to 151,300 (103,600) vehicles. In Western Europe (without Germany), the brand grew sales by 4.2 percent to 695,900 (667,800) vehicles. In Volkswagen's home market of Germany, Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 449,600 (408,300) vehicles, an increase of 10.1 percent.
