Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand Grows Vehicle Deliveries Further in Period to November
WOLFSBURG, Germany, Dec. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handed over 4.69 (January-November 2010: 4.18) million vehicles to customers worldwide from January to November 2011. The company therefore grew deliveries by 12.4 percent compared with the comparable prior-year period. For the month of November, the brand reported a 14.5 percent rise, delivering 452,900 (November 2010: 395,600) units. "The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand performed well in November on world markets that were at times volatile and grew vehicle deliveries further," Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
Deliveries in Europe as a whole developed well, with the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handing over 1.58 (1.43; +10.6 percent) million vehicles to customers there in the period to November, of which 835,900 (799,500; +4.6 percent) were delivered in Western Europe excluding Germany. Unit sales on the home market of Germany remained positive with 549,300 (496,900; +10.5 percent) vehicles handed over to customers. Volkswagen Passenger Cars reported a marked increase in the Central and Eastern Europe region, where 195,800 (132,800; +47.5 percent) vehicles were delivered. The brand doubled unit sales in Russia to 104,200 (52,100; +100.0 percent) vehicles.
Volkswagen sold 1.80 (1.57; +14.4 percent) million vehicles in the Asia / Pacific region in the period to November, of which 1.61 (1.45; +11.4 percent) million units were delivered in China, the region's largest single market. Deliveries in North America also developed well, with the brand handing over 448,500 (366,200; +22.5 percent) vehicles to customer there from January to November. 708,100 (683,200; +3.6 percent) vehicles were delivered in South America during the same period.
