Volker Sick Honored With SAE International Leadership Citation

WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Volker Sick, professor at the University of Michigan, has been honored with the SAE International Leadership Citation.

Established in 1988, this citation was created to provide public recognition to an individual known internationally for continuous professional involvement and participation in SAE International's meetings, conferences, congresses and/or unique assistance and support in helping SAE International achieve its goals and objectives, either in the broadest sense or related to one specific conference abroad.

In his current role, Sick teaches in the Mechanical Engineering department, is faculty advisor to international programs and serves as director of the Automotive Laboratory. He also holds guest professor appointments at Universitat Erlangen-Nurnberg, Germany and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, and is a fellow at the Center of Smart Interfaces at TU Darmstadt, Germany.

He has published more than 190 peer-reviewed papers and conference proceedings and has earned numerous industry awards including the 2012 College of Engineering Teaching Excellence Award, 2008 Silver Combustion Medal, 2007 College of Engineering Service Award and 2007 SAE Faculty Advisor of the Year Award.

Sick, a member of the Combustion Institute, Optical Society of America, American Society for Engineering Education and SAE International, holds three degrees in Chemistry and Physical Chemistry at the Universitat Heidelberg, Germany.
