REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for information about the networking and telecommunications industries, reported that spending in voice core key growth segments, LTE and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Core, will continue to increase over the next five years.

"We expect that cumulative revenue generated from newer Session Border Controller (SBC), Voice Application Servers (VAS) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Core systems will far exceed that from more mature Softswitch, Media Gateway and Mobile Switching Center (MSC) systems over the next five years," said Chris DePuy, Vice President at Dell'Oro Group. "As these new systems are deployed at service providers, we expect these operators will be faced with the decision whether to use vendor-supplied hardware or to use off-the-shelf server systems and vendor supplied Network Function Virtualization (NFV) software systems. This architectural transition to NFV presents near-term risks for both operators and vendors, but may provide for more efficient network operations over time," concluded DePuy.
Revenue projections for the SBC and VAS markets reveal a greater than ten percent compounded annual growth rate over the forecast period. The forecast report includes an analysis and estimate of NFV licenses for the SBC, IMS Core and VAS markets. The forecast report also includes Voice over LTE (VoLTE) subscribers, IMS Core equipment, Softswitch and Media Gateway equipment, and Enterprise Session Border Controllers. Markets are included for vendors such as Alcatel-Lucent, Broadsoft, GENBAND, Huawei, Mavenir, Metaswitch, Nokia-Siemens Networks, Oracle, Sonus, and ZTE.
