VIZIO's Thin + Light and All-In-One Touch PCs Win the Coveted 2013 IDSA International Design Excellence Awards

IRVINE, Calif., July 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- VIZIO announced today that both their Thin + Light and the All-in-One Touch PC won awards in the IDSA's 2013 International Design Excellence Awards. The VIZIO Thin + Light won the Silver IDEA award, and the VIZIO All-in-One Touch PC won the Bronze IDEA award. The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) is the voice of the industrial design profession, advancing the quality and positive impact of design. The IDEA competition comprises of multiple categories including:  digital design, entertainment, personal accessories, computer equipment and many more. For over 33 years, IDEA has recognized design excellence in products, sustainability, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts. A jury of 24 international design experts from design consultancies, corporations and universities chose the winning designs based on the following criteria: innovation, benefit to the user, responsibility, benefit to the client, visual appeal and appropriate aesthetics, design research category insights, and design strategy category.

"This year IDEA experienced a healthy increase in participation, most notably in digital design, computer equipment and student entries, and a more international group of participants," said IDEO's Thomas Overthun, the IDEA 2013 jury chair. "We saw design solving problems that years ago wouldn't have been intuitive roles for designers to play—making government interesting and engaging, or designing a political campaign. And, we noticed a trend towards design touching more aspects of the user experience, the best entries excelling with a consistent approach to hardware, interaction, digital and packaging design."

On July 1, winners were announced and displayed on idsa.org's IDEA 2013 Web gallery and through media partners Core77, Curve, Yanko Design, Design Bureau, and Plastics News. All winners are included in IDSA's Innovation journal fall Issue. IDSA will announce live at the IDEA ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at its 2013 International Conference in Chicago, the Best in Show, Curator's Choice, People's Choice and the Sustainability Award. Winning products will be on display during the 4 days of the conference (August 21-24) and will then be returned to the Henry Ford Museum. VIZIO's PCs will also be a part of The Henry Ford Museum's permanent design collection.
