MELBOURNE, Australia, May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Vix Technology has been recognised at the 59th World Congress and Exhibition of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), winning the award for Innovation and Technology. The theme at the event, held in Dubai was PTx2 – doubling the usage of public transport by 2025.
The award comes as a result of the 'SISMO' project. A Public Private Partnership (PPP) project carried out by Vix Technology with partner Veolia Cityway in the Oise region, France.
"To achieve the goal of doubling public transport usage by 2025 we must make transport easy to pay for and simple to use. SISMO is a perfect example of this," said Patrick Dumbell, General Manager of Vix Technology's Besancon Development Centre.
The SISMO project in France services train, tram and bus as well as carpooling and taxis.
The wide ranging project is a first for France and initiated in one of the nation's fastest growing regions covers automated fare collection and a comprehensives suite of real time passenger information including vehicle tracking and traffic alerts.
The introduction of a smartcard in September will complete the project.
