According to the FBI, a reported 400,000 burglaries occur during the holidays each year. In addition, the U.S. Fire Administration reports an estimated 240 home fires involving Christmas trees and another 150 home fires involving holiday lights occur during this time. Extended periods of vacancy leave homes particularly vulnerable as families go away for the holidays.
Christina Rubio of Coons Rapids, Minnesota, said her Vivint system more than paid for itself last Christmas. "On Christmas day, my family and my roommate all left the house at the same time. The alarm was set, and not 20 minutes later someone tried to break into our home. The alarm went off and the person fled the premises. Without Vivint, we probably would have come home to an empty house."
Vivint's lighting and small appliance controls allow consumers to turn on and off holiday lights or space heaters, reducing the risk of fire. Additionally, Vivint's smoke detectors monitor for both smoke and drastic changes in heat, so if a tree fire occurs, fire authorities will be alerted immediately.
Vivint customer Kyle Turner from Dallas, TX, says Vivint's lighting and small appliance controls give him an added peace of mind during the holiday season. "I feel safer with Vivint. It gives me an added layer of protection against fire. The smoke alarm is great, of course. But I know that if I forget, I can turn the lights off from anywhere and reduce the risk of having a tree fire," says Turner.
In addition, Vivint's security and home automation features keep customers informed on the activities of their home through customized smartphones alerts. Remote management options allow homeowners to have full control of their home from any location. When a motion sensor is triggered, an exterior door is opened, or a window is broken, homeowners are notified immediately.
Miranda Church of Aiken, South Carolina, appreciates the convenience of remotely managing her home automation system through utilizing Vivint's automatic door locks during the holiday season. "Vivint is a great resource to have in our home, especially during the busy holiday season," said Church. "Our family travels a lot and we often have someone take care of our animals and check on our house. With Vivint, we are able to allow them access without distributing keys all over through the use of the door lock keypad. Through our mobile access I am able unlock or lock our doors and check that things are being properly taken care of either through the log of activity or by accessing the camera inside my home."
Vivint's automatic door locks can also be programmed with personalized entry codes for family members or even neighbors. The locks can be programmed to send a text message when a code is entered so customers know exactly who is coming and going, and when. Homeowners can even watch what's happening at home with live video monitoring.
