LEHI, Utah, June 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivint Solar (NYSE: VSLR), a leading provider of residential solar energy systems in the United States, today announced that it has hired Greg Nielson, a leading solar power innovator, as a Principal Scientist in the company's Solar Technology Department.
Greg joins Vivint Solar from mPower Technology, where he has spent the past year developing commercial applications from his research on "microsystem enabled photovoltaics." Greg spearheaded this research while serving as Principal Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories. Greg was awarded a PhD from MIT in Mechanical Engineering in 2004 and joined Sandia as a Harry S. Truman Fellow.
"Greg is the kind of innovator and scientist that we, at Vivint Solar, look for," said Dan Rapp, Chief Technology Officer at Vivint Solar. "I am excited to welcome Greg to my team and anticipate that Greg will take a leading role as we work toward implementing a number of innovations in the products and services Vivint Solar offers its customers, which will in turn help to accelerate further adoption of clean, renewable energy."
In 2012, Greg was named one of the "Brilliant Ten" Scientists and Engineers in North America by Popular Science Magazine for his research into reducing the size of solar cells-a discovery that has led to solar cells being more durable, efficient, and cost-effective.
"I'm very excited to be joining Vivint Solar and to have the opportunity to work with Dan's team and the Solar Technology Department," said Greg Nielson. "It's amazing and exciting to see how far Vivint Solar has come in just a short time. I have no doubt that the company will continue to establish itself as a leader in the solar revolution."
