PROVO, Utah, Oct. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A home burglar near Boston wedged his way through a tight window opening on September 20 only to find himself in a tighter situation on the other side. Thanks to Vivint, the largest home automation services company in North America, a security camera recorded his every move and made apprehending the suspect as easy as pressing a "play" button.

The camera captured high-quality footage of the intruder entering Jacqueline and Edward Duffy's home through a narrow opening beside their first-floor window AC unit. Unable to remove the secured unit, the burglar found a way to squeeze past it and into the home.
"Our home had been broken into once before, and the intruder actually came in through this same window," says Jacqueline. "That's why we decided to point our Vivint camera at this window."
The previous intrusion prompted the Duffys to secure their Woburn, Massachusetts, home with a Vivint home automation system. Their investment proved its worth Friday morning when Edward received a smartphone alert at work from his alarm. By the time the Duffy's arrived home to investigate, police were already on the scene. Fortunately, the sound of the alarm scared off the burglar and forced him to leave empty-handed through the front door. Authorities were able to immediately identify and arrest the perpetrator based on the Vivint security camera's high quality video footage.
"I will never complain about the monthly payments because it works," said Jacqueline. "Fortunately for us, we have a reliable system in place that kept our home safe! We've shown the video to everyone—even people from work—and people are amazed at how clear the footage is. We're so glad we went with Vivint."
The Duffys posted the home intrusion video on YouTube to warn other homeowners of the dangers involved with installing portable AC units in first-floor windows. The video has since gone viral and has more than 490,000 hits. To view the Duffy's Vivint camera footage, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuCO5tQqXmM.
