VIVA Kickoff Signals New Service for Cultural Corridor
New routes debuted June 6, will connect riders to top local destinations
SAN ANTONIO, June 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- VIA Metropolitan Transit launched its new VIVA service line Monday. Three distinct routes—VIVA culture, VIVA missions, and VIVA centro—will connect riders with historic places, classic and contemporary art, popular dining and entertainment spots, and opportunities to learn and discover in the heart of San Antonio.
The launch of these new routes was celebrated at The DoSeum, a VIVA destination on the Broadway corridor. VIVA culture travels from Southtown to the McNay Museum of Art, along South Broadway. VIVA missions serves the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site, from the Alamo to Mission San Juan. Mission Espada will be added at a later date, once road construction in the area is complete. VIVA centro travels the city center, from Centro Plaza to Sunset Station.
"The three VIVA routes were inspired by places that celebrate San Antonio, and were developed with input from throughout our community," VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt said. "VIVA will enhance public transportation options in key corridors, and is designed to provide more frequent service and new connections to the region's most-visited destinations."
VIA announced that it will offer complimentary VIVA service on Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, and invited the community to explore these exciting routes.
VIA also debuted the VIVA brand at the launch, featured on a new CNG-fueled bus and a custom-made mural. The 6-by-12-foot colorful mural was designed by artists for Blue Star Coloring, located near The Witte Museum, also a VIVA destination. The mural will be displayed at The DoSeum through June 12. It will continue to be shown at various venues along the routes throughout the summer.
VIVA runs seven days a week, with extended hours and frequent service. Standard bus fares will apply. The best value for riders is a VIA Day Pass, which provides unlimited rides, all day for $2.75. Visit VIAinfo.net/VIVA for complete schedule information and locations served by VIVA.
