As a leading health and nutrition expert and author of seven books, Fuhrman is a board-certified family physician who specializes in warding off disease through nutritional and natural methods. His healthy and effective plan to maintain good nutrition, help reverse and prevent disease, and lose weight is outlined in his #1 New York Times best-selling book Eat to Live. Fuhrman is a sought-after speaker and has appeared on hundreds of radio and television shows including "Today," "Good Morning America," CNN, The Discovery Channel, The Food Network and "The Dr. Oz Show."
Vitamix has been a passionate advocate for improving the vitality of people's lives through whole food nutrition for decades. To advance this mission, Vitamix has worked with Healthy Cleveland on programs to help reduce health disparities in Cleveland and improve the quality of life for residents.
"There has never been a more important time for us to come together to focus on the importance of good nutrition in Cleveland," said Jodi Berg, president and CEO of Vitamix. "Dr. Fuhrman understands that in order for people to achieve health, they have to be able to sustain a healthy diet over time. For people to make changes and stick with those changes, the food has to not only be good for you, but it has to taste good and be convenient to prepare. Dr. Fuhrman 'gets' that, and he shows people how they can eat healthy in a sustainable way, in a way that fits into their lifestyle."
Vitamix has worked with Healthy Cleveland to initiate programs that have provided healthy smoothies to children at city schools and recreation centers. Prior to his formal lecture, Fuhrman will attend a private reception with government, business and community leaders involved in Healthy Cleveland to discuss healthy eating and best practices that may help advance the initiative.
"I'm proud to be in Cleveland on behalf of Vitamix and to serve as an ambassador for the company's mission of improving health and vitality through whole food nutrition," Fuhrman said. "Thousands of my clients and readers have adopted the Vitamix as a tool for creating whole food meals that taste great.
"With Vitamix's help, Cleveland has made significant progress to improve the health of its residents, but it has a long way to go," Fuhrman continued. "I've prepared a talk that is founded on my Eat to Live principles to help Clevelanders understand the actions they can take now to regain control over their diets and overall health."
The free public event begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at the State Theatre at PlayhouseSquare in Downtown Cleveland. Pre-registration is required at the PlayhouseSquare website. Doors open at 5 p.m., and guests can sample Fuhrman's antioxidant-rich smoothies, made in Vitamix machines, prior to the formal program.
