VisualOn Powers TVB.COM's Android Apps in Hong Kong
TVB.COM's GOTV and myTV apps feature VisualOn's OnStream MediaPlayer+ technology
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- VisualOn, Inc., a multimedia software company that enables high-quality video and audio across connected devices, today announced that TVB.COM Limited is a new international customer. VisualOn powers TVB.COM's mobile apps, GOTV and myTV on the Android platform. By integrating VisualOn's OnStream MediaPlayer+, a solution supporting high-quality playback across any connected device, TVB.COM can now provide its Hong Kong customers with video streaming on-the-go.
Global mobile video consumption and mobile device fragmentation – particularly on the Android platform – continues to grow rapidly. According to OpenSignal, there are nearly 12,000 distinct device models on the market, all with varying hardware capabilities, streaming protocols and formats. VisualOn's OnStream MediaPlayer+ allows TVB.COM to overcome this challenge by effectively scaling its solution to deliver media across any device. As a result, the technology behind GOTV and myTV provides Hong Kong consumers with high-quality audio and visual playback across older devices (running Android 2.3 Gingerbread) to the latest models. The service will stream up to 720p at one megabit per second, the typical resolution standard for most Android 4.0 and higher smartphones.
"The international mobile market is growing at a rapid pace and Hong Kong is a leader in smartphone usage per capita," said Andy Lin, CEO of VisualOn. "We're thrilled that TVB.COM leveraged VisualOn's expertise in solving the challenge of delivering media throughout the device ecosystem. We're confident that TVB.COM will efficiently scale media delivery across any customer device and provide the rich and seamless viewing experience users want – from anywhere in the world."
"We needed a solution that helped us easily scale our mobile solution across the Android platform," said Kenneth Wong, Chief Operating Officer at TVB.COM Limited. "The proven performance of VisualOn's OnStream MediaPlayer+ gave us the ability to deliver a high-quality video experience to the Android devices that our customers choose."
GOTV is a paid cross-platform video on demand service that launched in January 2014. Users can enjoy more than 10,000 episodes of TVB classic episodes that were produced within the last 46 years. Launched with great success in November 2012, myTV app brings users up to speed on the latest TVB entertainment programs and news.
