VisualOn Expands Multimedia Platform Support to Include Chrome PPAPI, Android TV, Android M, iOS9, Windows 10/IE11, and Windows Phone
VisualOn's OnStream MediaPlayer+ Expands Platform Coverage
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- VisualOn Inc., a multimedia software company that enables high quality audio and video playback across connected devices, today announced that the company is expanding its platform coverage. VisualOn's OnStream® MediaPlayer+ will now support additional platforms and operating systems (OS), such as: Android TV, Android M, iOS9, Windows 10/IE11, and Windows Phone. Additionally, OnStream MediaPlayer+ offers the industry's most unique solution for Google Chrome PPAPI.
VisualOn's OnStream MediaPlayer+ (OSMP+) is a market-proven platform that currently powers global premier Over-The-Top (OTT) and TV-Everywhere (TVE) brands. With this platform expansion, OTT and TVE service providers can now support high-quality streaming to millions of old and new device end-points and enable their customers to view content on any connected device; mobile or tablet, TV or desktop etc. OSMP+ uses cross-platform technology that overcomes the challenges of device and service fragmentation that OTT and TVE operators face.
"Scalable cross platform client media frameworks with a single software code base is the most effective way for OTT and TVE operators to deploy their services. Our technology enables operators to overcome the hurdles of fragmentation, scale efficiently across platforms and devices, and enable features and functionality for faster service deployment, tracking and monetization," said Andy Lin, CEO of VisualOn. "We are thrilled that many global OTT and TVE operators have selected VisualOn to bring their subscribers' digital content to life. As global experts in the media playback space, and with the expanded platform coverage, we're well-positioned to help global premium OTT/TVE operators scale their services efficiently."
VisualOn has been working on a solution to support Google's Pepper Plug-in API (PPAPI) on the Chrome browser since Google announced the discontinuation of NPAPI support in September 2013. VisualOn's unique PPAPI plug-in approach and solution, enables premium content providers to deliver their services to Chrome browsers without service interruptions, while continuing to use existing DRM technology. This solution is available for preview now and will begin shipping in fall 2015. VisualOn will continue to keep pace as the various browsers make updates. VisualOn's support for other browsers-platform combinations will continue based on current support model.
Besides support for Android 2.x, 3.x, 4.x and 5.x versions on mobile phones and tablets, OSMP+ now supports Android TV in set top box as well as in TV form. Operators now have a ready-made solution for extending their reach to these Android TV devices.
Apple's new iOS9 and Google Android's M operating systems updates are slated for general release sometime in September 2015. VisualOn has been porting and testing OSMP+ on iOS9 and Android M preview versions and will have a release ready to coincide with the iOS9 and Android M updates.
With an increase in demand for support of Windows Phone devices specifically by European sports media broadcasters and sport related OTT and TVE service operators, VisualOn has now extended the support for this device platform. OnStream MediaPlayer+ with support for Windows phone devices is available now.
