VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich., Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With activities ranging from expert panelists to a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) technology demonstration, Visteon Corporation will join Detroit and the state of Michigan in welcoming an expected 10,000 international transportation and technology leaders to the 2014 World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Sept. 7-11.
The World Congress only comes to North America every third year and rotates locations, so anticipation for this year's show in the Motor City is extremely high.
"We're excited to be a part of this extraordinary event that brings together the greatest minds, leaders and policy makers in the industry to discuss the future of intelligent transportation," said Tim Leuliette, president and CEO of Visteon, one of the world's largest suppliers of vehicle cockpit electronics and thermal energy management systems for the automotive industry.
Leuliette is also a member of the World Congress Honorary Committee, chaired by Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder. At the 2014 ITS World Congress, Leuliette will join other senior leaders in a plenary session titled, "Reinventing Business Models for the New ITS."
"The auto industry is a critical component of the ecosystem of intelligent transportation, and as a Michigan-based company with global operations, we're looking forward to showcasing technologies that will help define transportation in the future," Leuliette said.
With a focus on supporting connectivity in vehicles, Visteon's exhibit at the World Congress will feature vehicle cockpit concepts and technology related to telematics and audio and infotainment. A highlight of Visteon's World Congress presence will be a V2V ride-and-drive demonstration on Belle Isle, part of the event's Technology Showcase. Vehicle occupants will experience a fully integrated cockpit human machine interaction (HMI) under three scenarios: obstructed stopped vehicle ahead warning, emergency electronic brake light warning, and slippery road condition ahead warning.
Tim Yerdon, Visteon's global electronics design, marketing and connected services leader, will participate on two panels: one with chief technology officers from automakers and suppliers and a special interest panel discussing the economics and partnerships driving connected cars. Brian Daugherty of Visteon's advanced development team will be on a panel on advanced connected vehicle technology security and certification. Additionally, a technical paper on vehicle and driver communication systems will be delivered by Visteon technical fellow Rick Zerod.
