Virginia, say Hello to "$1,000,000 Money Ball"

RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Get ready Virginia, $1,000,000 Money Ball is coming!

The new Virginia Lottery game will offer some of the best odds of becoming a millionaire of any current jackpot game. It begins September 14, with the first drawing on September 17.

"One thing we've consistently heard from players is they want an exciting game that's played in Virginia only. We listened," said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto. "We think our players will really enjoy $1,000,000 Money Ball."

Here's how it works: You select five numbers out of 35 numbered balls. The Lottery draws five balls out of 36. That's 35 numbered balls plus one Gold Million Dollar Money Ball. If the Gold Million Dollar Money Ball is drawn, an additional numbered ball is drawn and the top prize in that drawing increases from $100,000 to $1 million.

$1,000,000 Money Ball replaces Win for Life, which concludes a successful eight-year run with the September 13 drawing. Win for Life created 44 lifetime-winners in Virginia while generating an estimated $95 million for Virginia's K-12 public schools.

$1,000,000 Money Ball tickets will be available at Virginia Lottery retailers for $2 each. Drawings will be held Wednesday and Saturday nights at 11:00. The odds of winning the $1 million prize are 1 in 2,337,350.

The Virginia Lottery will celebrate the launch of $1,000,000 Money Ball with two exciting promotions:

• $1,000,000 Money Ball Monday: on September 15 between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., players who buy a ticket for any computer-generated Virginia Lottery game could receive a free $1,000,000 Money Ball ticket. Tickets will be randomly generated at retailers across Virginia.
• Go for the Gold: From September 16 through October 5, for every $1,000,000 Money Ball ticket bought, players can enter a drawing for an actual gold bar, (estimated value $1,000, depending on daily fluctuations in price of gold). Drawings will be held October 15 for a total of 75 gold bars.
