Virgin Islands select Apex and ProField® for AMI Meter Deployment
HERNDON, Va., March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. Virgin Islands Water & Power Authority (VIWAPA), a not-for profit public power utility servicing the islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John, has just announced a new partnership with Apex CoVantage. Apex was selected through a competitive bidding process, from a group of highly capable companies, to provide installation and project management services for the utility's upcoming Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployment.
AMI technology facilitates the two-way transmission of data between end-user meters and a utility's offices. This enhanced communication will enable VIWAPA to better serve its customers through remote meter reading, improved outage management and seamless delivery of reliable power. It also provides detailed information about usage and cost, empowering customers to make more informed decisions about consumption.
Apex's ProField technology, a full Enterprise Resource Planning platform for Mobile Workforce Management, will be utilized to execute this project from start to finish. ProField manages a full spectrum of deployment activities, including: safety management, asset management, remote management of field operations, hiring/training and real-time reporting.
Job site safety and data quality are two areas in which VIWAPA remains highly focused. Apex will address both of these concerns by strictly enforcing its "Work Safe or Not at All" safety policy, while allowing ProField's intelligent workflows to "design out" many of the process related errors and safety infractions that commonly occur during like projects.
"The advanced technology of ProField, with its focus on efficiency and work safety, were the key aspects that made Apex and ProField the best fit for VIWAPA," says Clinton T. Hedrington, Director of Transmission & Distribution at VIWAPA.
"Apex is proud to share in VIWAPA's goal of enhancing the economic development and quality of life for the people living in the U.S. Virgin Islands and surrounding areas," says Shashi Gupta, CEO at Apex. "Our expertise and industry-leading technology will play a big role in making that vision a reality."
All customers living in VIWAPA's service territory will receive new electric AMI meters as a result of this organized initiative. Pre-planning and system integration is now underway and related fieldwork will soon commence.
