Vip.com Comes to NYFW with the Post 95s' Favorite Colors
NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Vipshop Holdings Limited (Vip.com), the world's largest online discount retailer for brands and China's third-largest e-commerce site, today held a big data-inspired avant-garde fashion show targeting China's "Post 95s" (people born after 1995) at the 2017 F/W New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in partnership with Qzone, one of China's largest online social network platforms owned by Tencent, and Chi Zhang, one of China's most famous fashion designers. As the first-ever runway show staged at Space Shuttle Pavilion, the event featured tech-intensive and futuristic elements, while showcasing China's adventurous, innovative and confident "Post 95s" generation. The F/W collection unveiled at NYFW will be available exclusively on Vip.com in Fall 2017. Starting at 95 RMB per item, Chinese consumers will be able to enjoy international fashion show styles at affordable prices.
The inspiration for the industry's first "AI + Fashion" runway show primarily came from the "AI + Fashion: Color Trends Report of China's Post 95s" jointly released by Vip.com, Qzone and YouTu Lab, an AI research lab under Tencent focusing on machine learning. Among other things, the report found that the three colors mostly preferred by China's "Post 95s" are a particular shade of black, dubbed "95-degree black" by Vip.com (RGB codes are 22, 20, and 24), white and gray. The report also finds that the three colors they like to pair with the "95-degree black," white and gray the most are yellow, red and blue. The findings were obtained by utilizing massive amounts of sales data from "Post 95s" customers on Vip.com, and applying artificial intelligence (AI)-based facial recognition and image processing technologies from Tencent's Youtu Lab to analyze hundreds of billions of publicly available photos uploaded onto Qzone in 2016. Chi Zhang applied the above findings and other fashion preferences revealed in the report in design of the collection featured at the show.
"Vip.com believes that online retailing is entering the C2F (Consumer-to-Fashion) era where consumers define fashion trends," said Feifei Chen, Senior Director of Vip.com." This partnership represents an innovative crossover between e-commerce, cutting-edge technologies and fashion, enabling the connection between big data, artificial intelligence and the fashion industry. It not only provides more inspiration and possibilities for artistic fashion design, but also allows consumers to get the styles they want at very reasonable prices through Vip.com." With this crossover partnership, Vip.com kicked off Season One of its affordable fashion-forward clothing series of 2017. The big data-inspired F/W collection for China's "Post 95s" unveiled at NYFW will be available exclusively on Vip.com in Fall 2017. Starting at 95 RMB per item, Chinese consumers will be able to enjoy international fashion show styles at affordable prices.
The show featured four collections: "The Present," "The Future," "The Classical" and "The 95° Collection," which consist of high-street styles and cool techno-fashion inspired by future technologies, and feature the colors and patterns that "Post 95s" love.
"In the future, we will continue to team up with more partners to launch additional fashion-forward collections. In this way, more consumers will enjoy the latest runway styles at affordable prices and Vip.com will make even more surprises possible with the C2F model," said Chen.
