VIP Communications Releases Expat Mother's Day Calling Trends Report
Study released by leading international calling company reveals insights into the Mother's Day calling habits of expats from hundreds of countries across the world.
ASHBURN, Va., May 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- VIP Communications, Inc., a leading provider of international calling services and solutions, today announced the official release of its annual Mother's Day Calling Trends Report, a comprehensive report that provides an inside look at Mother's Day calling trends and habits of expat communities from over 100 countries throughout the world.
To conduct the report, VIP Communications analyzed the increase in average daily call volume, average time spent on the phone, and several other calling patterns of more than 30,000 expat customers from over 100 countries. Key highlights from the report include:
- More Calls to Mom This Year
Mother's Day marks the most homesick year of all time for expats, especially this past year. The average phone call volume globally increased by 40% this past Mother's Day, compared to a 21% increase during last year's Mother's Day.
- Mom is Always #1. Or is she?
Mother's Day ranks 3rd in the holidays with the highest percent increases among expats living in the United States, with a 37% increase in calls overseas compared to a normal day. The moms of the world come right after Christmas, which had an 81% increase in calls, and New Year's Eve which had a 61% increase.
- Ghanians Overtake South Africans as Biggest Momma's Boys (and Girls)
Ghanaians "love" their mothers the most, overtaking South Africans, which held the #1 spot the previous year. According to this year's report, the average amount of calls made on Mother's Day among Ghanaians is 98% higher than it is on all other days in the year -- higher than any other country in the world.
- An Expat Only a Mother Could Love: What Countries "Love" Their Mom the Least?
A mother's job is to forgive and forget, right? So maybe they will forgive expats from Eritrea, Jamaica and Zambia; the top countries that seem to have forgotten to give their mothers a ring on this day with an average -14% decrease in call volume on that day.
- Mom vs. Dad
It looks like Daddy's little girls and boys are in big trouble. According to the report, Mother's Day gets more talk time than Father's Day. Where Mother's Day came in with a 37% call increase, Father's Day calls only jumped 23%.
- That's Amore! But Not for Mom.
Europeans value their lovers over their mothers, as Italy, France, and Spain all experienced significant call volume increases during Valentine's Day, yet experienced no increase during Mother's Day.
