VIP Communications Releases 2012 Mother's Day Expat Calling Trends Report
Study released by leading international calling company reveals latest insights into the Mother's Day calling habits of US-based expats from countries across the world.
ASHBURN, Va., May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- VIP Communications, Inc., a leading provider of international calling services and solutions, announced today the official release of its 2012 Mother's Day Calling Trends Report. The Report, which has been released annually for the past three years, is a comprehensive analysis that provides an inside look at Mother's Day calling trends of US-based expats from over 100 countries across the world.
To conduct the Report, VIP Communications analyzed the increase in average daily call volume, average time spent on the phone, and several other calling patterns of more than 30,000 expat customers from over 100 countries. Key highlights from the Report include:
- Cameroon, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica "Love" Mom the Most
Cameroon (316%), Trinidad and Tobago (307%), and Jamaica (260%) had the largest percentage increase in call volume on Mother's Day.
- Poland, France and Belgium in Mom's "Doghouse"
With the largest decrease in calls on Mother's Day - an average decrease of 44% - US-based expats from Poland, France, and Belgium are among the most inactive Mother's Day callers across the globe. However, while they refuse to call mom, Belgium and France saw some of the largest increases on Father's Day. France had a 57% increase on Father's Day while Belgium had a 114% increase.
- South Africans Are Most "Active" Holiday Callers
South Africans experienced the largest combined increases in total call volume on both Mother's Day and Father's Day with an increase of 150% and 88% respectively. South Africans were also among the most active Valentine's Day and Christmas callers. In fact, the only holiday that saw a decrease in call volume from South African expats was Easter, with a 28% decrease.
- Expats From Trinidad "Love" Their Mothers, But What About Dads?
Although expats from Trinidad and Tobago boasted the second largest call volume increase on Mother's Day with a 307% spike, they experienced the third largest decrease in calls on Father's Day with a 61% fall-off.
- European Countries Lagging Behind in Mother's Day Calling
One interesting finding from the Report revealed that, when it comes to calling home on Mother's Day, European expats are lagging behind their African counterparts. For example, although Switzerland, Ireland and Croatia all experienced significant increases in average daily call volume on Mother's Day, none of them managed to crack the Top 10 globally.
- Family Troubles in Spain?
For the second consecutive year, Spain placed in the bottom ten for both Mother's Day and Father's Day with a decrease in call volume of 24% on Mother's Day and 50% on Father's Day.
