VIP Communications Releases 2012 Expat Sentiment Survey
Study released by leading international calling company gains critical insights into the interests, sentiment and spirits of expats currently living in the United States
ASHBURN, Va., Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- VIP Communications, Inc., (VIP) a leading provider of international calling services and solutions, today announced the official release of its 2012 Expat Sentiment Survey Report, a comprehensive report which provides an inside look at expat and immigrant communities from over 190 countries that are currently living in the United States.
VIP gathered feedback on a variety of subjects from more than 20,000 expat customers to get an indication of their quality of life in the United States. Among much of the featured data, some highlights are:
- No Regrets About Migrating to the States: The vast majority of expats are content with their decision to migrate to the United States, with 94 percent of respondents indicating they believe they made the right choice in coming to the States, and 88 percent indicating they would do it all over again if faced with the decision.
- Friends and Family are Greatest Source of Homesickness: When asked what they miss the most about their native country, the most popular response was "friends and family" at 80 percent. Other sources of homesickness were food, sports, entertainment, and overall quality of life.
- Quality of Life Ranking Among Expats is Generally Positive and Improving: Each respondent was asked to rank their quality of life in the United States over the past year on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best and 1 being the worst. The most common ranking was 8/10 (26 percent), followed by 9/10 (16 percent) and 7/10 (15 percent). Only 2 percent of respondents gave their quality of life ranking the lowest score possible, while a mere 1 percent gave their ranking a 2/10 and 3/10. Also, 69 percent of respondents indicated that they were very confident their quality of life would improve over the next year.
- Nothing Beats Home Cooking: When asked which country has better food, the United States or their native country, the majority of respondents (56 percent) answered that their native country "takes the cake" when it comes to cuisine!
- United States is More "Entertaining" Than Native Land: When it comes to sports and entertainment there is simply no comparison between the United States and other countries. 73 percent of respondents indicated that the United States had far better options than their home countries to keep themselves and their families entertained.
- Expats Feel Safer and Better Educated in the United States: 83 percent of respondents feel the United States offers a much better educational system than what is available in their native country, and 62 percent believe the United States is generally a safer place to live than their country of origin.
