Study released by leading international calling company reveals insights into the holiday calling habits of expats from hundreds of countries across the world.
ASHBURN, Va., Dec. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- VIP Communications, Inc., a leading provider of international calling services and solutions, today announced the official release of its 2011 Holiday Calling Report, a comprehensive report that provides an inside look at the holiday calling trends and habits of expat communities from across the world.
To conduct the report, VIP Communications analyzed the increase in average daily call volume, average time spent on the phone, and several other calling patterns of more than 40,000 expat customers from over 100 countries. Key highlights from the report include:
- 'Tis the Season for Calling: The study finds that, when it comes to making phone calls on Christmas, Kenyans are the most committed, with a 280.9 percent increase in call volume on that day – More than any other country in the world! The Ivory Coast takes a close second with a 229.8 percent call volume increase, and Ireland finishes third with a 207.5 percent increase.
- The Grinch Who Never Calls: While Kenyans are the most committed to calling on Christmas, the Swedes can be considered the "Calling Grinches" with a 64% decrease in call volume.
- Africa Dominates: When looking at the top ten countries for Christmas, New Years and Valentine's Day, at least 5 out of 10 were African. Kenya took first for Christmas, while The Ivory Coast took first for New Year's (206.7% increase) and Algeria took second for Valentine's Day (148.2% increase.) Other notable African countries were South Africa, Benin, Cameroon, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
- Swiss Love Their Sweethearts: The study finds that Switzerland has the "best" lovers with a call volume increase of 215.3% on Valentine's Day. If you can't find a committed significant other in Switzerland, try Algeria– they ranked second in the study with an average of 128.4% increase in call volume on Valentine's Day.
- Mommy-Daddy Issues: Some people may prefer one parent over the other. According to the study, Belgium ranked third in call volume for Father's Day with a 114% increase, but ranked in the bottom three for Mother's Day with a 42.5% decrease. However, Cameroon seems to care about both parents equally – It ranked first for Mother's Day (315.6% increase) and second for Father's Day (183.4% increase).
