Vietnam Memorial Ceremony Time Changes to 12:30 P.M.
Philadelphia Jurist Slated as Veterans Day Speaker
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 4, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Senior Judge Abram Frank Reynolds, a U.S. Air Force veteran and Pennsylvania's first Supervising Judge of Philadelphia Family court, will be the main speaker at the annual Veteran's Day ceremony at 12:30 p.m. at the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Front and Spruce streets.
Judge Reynolds was elected to the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas in 1986 and became its Deputy Administrative Judge of Family Court. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court appointed Judge Reynolds supervising judge in 1992 and he also supervised from 2000 to 2003 the juvenile court, which became a national model.
Active in community organizations that enrich children's lives, he is a certified tennis teaching professional and was a guiding force behind a city tennis program, which produced five American Tennis Association National championships, as well as more than a hundred college scholarships.
A graduate of the law school at Rutgers-Camden, Judge Reynolds has received numerous awards throughout his legal career, including Pennsylvania's Outstanding Judicial Leadership Award in 2003 from the Juvenile Court Judges' Commission and the Thurgood Marshall Award from the Philadelphia Bar Association. He was a founding member and chief counsel for the National Conference of Black Lawyers in Philadelphia. In 2006, he earned his LLM Degree at Temple Law School while teaching at Reuters Law School.
Judge Reynolds joined the service in 1956 and served with the military training mission to Saudi Arabia until 1959. He also served as a briefing specialist at Langley Air Force Base with the Tactical Air Command until 1959. He transferred to the Special Air Warfare Center, which included temporary assignments in the USAF South East Asia group and with the First Air Commando Wing, a highly decorated reconnaissance unit.
Traditionally held at noon, the Nov. 11 program has been moved to 12:30 p.m. to provide more time for the conclusion of ceremonies at the nearby Korean War Memorial.
