Video Game Angers Trump Supporters
Novelty app stokes political emotions
NEW YORK, Jan. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The election is settled, but a battle still rages against Donald Trump in the unlikeliest of places: a crude video game.
The free low-brow mobile game called (and we can't believe we're writing this) Dookie Shoot takes place in a cartoon toilet overrun by cute invading animals. The player uses his, ahem, body's natural ammo to fight back—and for 99 cents can add an amusingly realistic 3D Trump as a target.
Some Trump supporters are howling mad about the game's treatment of their man, although the game offers a virtual Hillary Clinton as well, undermining the argument that the game is anti-Trump.
So which target has sold better? The makers of the game, Witless Entertainment, say this proxy war remains a dead heat, as dismayed Trump haters buy digital Trump targets, and Trump fans, even after vanquishing her in the election, buy up little Hillaries.
"The game makes unloading on the other side fun," says president of Witless Entertainment, Jeff Goldstone. Indeed, when a player dumps on either one, their heads realistically wobble and their mouths open in horror. Pelt them enough and they twist away down the drain. It's funny, and oddly satisfying.
For now, Dookie Shoot works only with Android, because Apple balked at the game's touchy subject matter. "We built it for iOS," Goldstone explained, "but Apple said no way."
Android users are in luck and can download the game for no charge at http://bit.ly/2i7sRUN. Apple loyalists wishing Apple would carry the game can register at www.dookieshootgame.com.
"We'll tweet updates on who's selling more, the Trump target or Hillary target," Goldstone said. "We think Trump targets will be most popular, but his supporters could keep surprising us by snatching up more Hillaries and showing everyone how they still feel."
Two things are certain: emotions surrounding President Trump won't dissipate soon, and neither will low-brow humor. Combining the two makes Dookie Shoot the real winner.
