NEW YORK, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- See video from Stockholm Business Region at:
Vitoria-Gasteiz and Nantes were appointed European Green Capitals 2012-2013 respectively at the first European Green Capital Conference, hosted by Stockholm. According to the European Green Capital Secretariat, Vitoria-Gasteiz, a regional capital of northern Spain, has successfully converted a degraded urban area into a semi-natural green district called the 'Green Belt'. Vitoria-Gasteiz, which has been highly committed toward sustainable water consumption over the last ten years, is also developing several measures to increase biodiversity and ecosystem services. Nantes, the 6th largest city in France, has successfully integrated urban challenges around its major rivers, the Loire and the Erdre, following a sustainable water management programme. Nantes has also shown a strong transport policy focusing on public transport and cycling. Vitoria-Gasteiz and Nantes will carry on the tradition from Stockholm, Sweden, which was the first Green Capital 2010, and Hamburg, Germany, which will be Green Capital 2011. Available video includes an edited package, as well as shots and soundbites.
