To help raise awareness to the importance of securing children properly during every ride, Safe Kids USA has partnered with the General Motors Foundation during National Child Passenger Safety Week 2010. On September 19-25, certified technicians located at "checkup events" across the country will inspect car seats and educate parents and caregivers on how to correctly install them. Two of the most common mistakes in installing car seats are not attaching the seat to the vehicle tightly enough and not adjusting the harness correctly. In addition, car seats, like kids, come in different sizes and getting the right combination is crucial to proper function.
Nearly 1.3 million seats have been checked and over 457,000 have been given to families in need since the program began in 1997.
