WASHINGTON, Dec. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Environmental Policy Alliance released a video showing a means through which Russian money may secretly be funding U.S. environmental groups via an offshore shell company. The video reveals that, in recent years, Klein Ltd., a Bermuda corporation that appears to exist solely on paper, gave over $20 million to a San Francisco foundation that funds environmental groups. Meanwhile, Klein is run out of a law firm with substantial ties to Russian energy interests—who have common cause with U.S. environmental activists interested in restricting domestic energy production—and a Russian money laundering case.
The video is based on a report of the same name released by the Alliance in January. An updated version of the report is being re-released with the new video in light of Russia's involvement in the Paris climate change summit—including a reportedly bogus "pledge" to reduce Russia's carbon emissions—and recent Russian aggression that has sparked international headlines.
The video, titled "From Russian With Love?," can be viewed here. You can view the updated report here.
"Our video shows how the environmentalist movement may simply be modern-day useful idiots for Russian oil interests and their cronies," said Will Coggin, the Alliance's director of research. "It may seem like a shockingly cynical scheme, but the surprise really would be if it hasn't been occurring."
