Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to be Keynote Speaker at AFA's Annual Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition
ARLINGTON, Va., June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association is pleased to announce that Adm. James A. Winnefeld, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will be the keynote speaker at AFA's 2013 Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition. The event will be held Sept. 16–18, 2013, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center on the Potomac, in National Harbor, Md.
AFA's annual Air & Space Conference brings together senior Air Force leadership, industry experts, academia and current aerospace specialists from around the world to discuss the current issues and challenges facing America and the aerospace community.
In his role as the ninth vice chairman, Winnefeld serves as the nation's second highest-ranking military officer. Prior to this position, Winnefeld commanded units in combat during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also served as commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, commander NATO Allied Joint Command Lisbon, and commander Striking and Support Forces NATO.
Gen. Mark A. Welsh, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, will also provide an Air Force Update. As the senior uniformed Air Force officer, he is responsible for the organization, training, and equipping of 690,000 active duty, Guard, Reserve, and civilian forces serving in the U.S. and overseas.
Gen. Mike Hostage, commander of Air Combat Command at Langley AFB, Va., also will speak about Combat Air Forces in the 2020s. As the commander, Hostage is responsible for preparing combat-ready forces in the ACC for rapid deployment and employment while ensuring strategic air defense forces are ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime defense.
