MILPITAS, Calif., June 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) today announced that an independent testing report by The Tolly Group verifies that GigaStor achieves the highest, sustained real-world 40 Gb performance in the industry without dropping a single packet. GigaStor is part of Viavi's Observer Platform, the industry's first 40 Gbps wire-rate analytics, traffic and storage solution.
As networks push beyond 10 Gb, driven by cloud, increasing bandwidth, and other demands, it's critical to capture all the network traffic as the most accurate source of evidence for assessing, reconstructing, and resolving end-user issues and security events. Packet capture is the only method that allows IT teams to fully reconstruct and accurately analyze performance or security at a granular level.
With this in mind, the Tolly testing focused on the most critical operating parameters for network forensic appliances, including sustained packets-per-second processing, uninterrupted throughput, and maximum burst performance. In each case, one-hundred-percent packet capture was achieved, enabling accurate analysis, metadata creation, and storage of all network conversations.
GigaStor achieved greater than 40 Gbps sustained write-to-disk performance and processing of 14.3 million packets per second for real-time analysis and metadata creation. In addition to this baseline performance, GigaStor was also verified to support a burst rate of 60 Gbps for 30 second periods of time with zero packet loss. Finally, Tolly validated 10 and 40 Gbps line-rate performance while providing data-at-rest protection with AES-256 encryption.
"To help ensure accurate network performance troubleshooting and the utmost data security, Observer GigaStor delivers the ability to capture and analyze every packet in real-time, while storing more than a petabyte of data for post-event forensic investigations and regulatory compliance," said Douglas Roberts, Vice President and General Manager, Enterprise & Cloud Business Unit, Viavi Solutions. "As the industry's first 40 Gbps wire-rate analytics, traffic and storage solution, the Observer Platform offers total peace-of-mind protection."
"Cyber attacks continue to grow in size and number, as well as cost, which means that threat detection and remediation are more important than ever," said Kevin Tolly, Founder of The Tolly Group. "A multidimensional test and measurement approach that includes throughput, packets per second, and burst performance is the most accurate method of complete network monitoring, and Viavi is unique in offering this approach."
