DirectEmployers Association announces the revamp of Veterans.jobs, a website that helps transitioning military men and women find employment in the civilian workforce, including a more robust search and better user experience.
INDIANAPOLIS, May 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To further honor Memorial Day, a time where Americans around the nation remember those who have served in the military, DirectEmployers Association shows support for their sacrifice by announcing the revamp of Veterans.jobs, a website intended to assist transitioning servicemen and women find employment in the civilian workforce.

"Further cultivating and developing veterans outreach programs for member companies has always been a goal of DirectEmployers. By implementing a better search functionality on Veterans.jobs, we've created a better user experience for job seekers and sponsorship opportunities for employers committed to showing their dedication to hiring veterans," commented Bill Warren, Executive Director, DirectEmployers Association.
Searching for a specific Military Occupation Code (MOC) or Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) on Veterans.jobs has also been improved to help create more relevant job results. On the previous Veterans.jobs interface, any searches done would take the job seeker to an entirely different website. For example, if a search were conducted for MOC 11B1A, the job seeker would be redirected to the separate domain http://11b1a.jobs, instead of displaying the job results related to that specific MOC. Now, regardless of what MOC/MOS is searched, jobs relevant to that MOC will be displayed on the http://www.veterans.jobs website.
While Veterans.jobs has been a launching point for translating MOC/MOS codes to match civilian jobs, employers are also embracing this method of skill-matching. By adopting a military skills translator onto their .JOBS microsites, employers have been able to supplement their veterans recruiting strategies. For example, AT&T was recently highlighted for its veterans outreach website, http://att-veterans.jobs, which has been incorporated in its corporate career site to help recruit transitioning servicemen and women.
Outside of the realm of Veterans.jobs, many of DirectEmployers member companies see the value of hiring veterans into their civilian workplace. Eric Airola, Senior Director of Human Resources, J.B. Hunt Transport remarked, "We love veterans at J.B. Hunt because they come into the workplace with a sense of awareness about what their capabilities and responsibilities are and they take their jobs very seriously."
