Veterans' Dreams of Home Ownership Made a Reality Through Be a Hero Hire a Hero and Purple Heart Homes Collaboration
Employment, education and resource expo hosted by both organizations on September 20 at Citi Field Ballpark
FLUSHING, N.Y., Sept. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Since returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan highly trained and skilled Veterans want and need three things – a job, a home and a sense of belonging. On Friday, September 20, at Citi Field Ballpark in Flushing, New York Be a Hero Hire a Hero will host an employment, education and resource expo.
Purple Heart Homes is collaborating with Be a Hero Hire a Hero to provide the dream of home ownership to Service Connected Disabled Veterans that obtain a job that might require relocation and need a home for themselves and their families in that new location.
Purple Heart Homes obtains properties through donations from banks, bequests and municipalities. The homes are then paired with pre-qualified and approved veterans. Specific adaptations are made to the property to meet the Veteran's needs. A mortgage is then arranged at 50% of the completed appraised home market value. The program is designed to be a hand up and not a hand out that produces a positive psychological impact for the Veteran to know they are able to provide for themselves and their families.
"By having both a job and home is a great beginning for our returning Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans," says Jeff Klare, founder of Be a Hero Hire a Hero. "It creates a sense of needed purpose and provides for that much needed sense of belonging."
John Gallina, Purple Heart Homes Co-founder will be attending a breakfast at Citi Field on Friday and will be receiving the Leadership Award from Be a Hero Hire a Hero for taking charge of the challenging issues many returning Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans face when they return home with a Service Connected Disability to provide them with the dream of Home Ownership.
"Purple Heart Homes is honored to be receiving a leadership award from Be a Hero Hire a Hero," says Co-founder John Gallina. "We work closely with each veteran to set them up for success with not only a home, but also with a mentor to help guide them through the home ownership maze."
