QUEBEC, Nov. 2, 2012 /CNW/ - - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, joined Gilles Courteau, Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and the governors of the various teams at an event to highlight the important partnership between the League's teams and Veterans Affairs Canada. Since 2005, a number of QMJHL teams have been organizing remembrance activities that honour Canadian Veterans in the lead-up to Remembrance Day.
"I am pleased to join the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in paying tribute to all those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peacekeeping missions," said Minister Blaney. "The puck drops organized by the QMJHL teams, in which both Veterans and players take part, help to educate younger generations about the importance of remembrance."
The QMJHL and Veterans Affairs Canada are working closely to commemorate the contributions of men and women in uniform. This year, the QMJHL, the Midget AAA league and the North American Hockey League (NAHL) will take part in 34 ceremonial puck drops across Quebec during Veterans' Week (November 5-11).
