Vernier's Summer Institutes Help Educators Integrate Data-Collection Technology into Their Science Curriculum
Full-day summer institutes teach techniques for data-collection and analysis as called for in the Next Generation of Science Standards
BEAVERTON, Ore., April 24, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This summer, Vernier Software & Technology will offer 25 full-day, hands-on training institutes to help science teachers nationwide integrate data-collection technology into their science curriculum. During the institutes, teachers will work alongside a training specialist and use Vernier's award-winning hardware and software technology to explore classroom-ready labs and activities.
"For over thirty years, Vernier has focused on teaching educators how to use digital tools – sensors and graphing software – to help students engage in authentic scientific practices during laboratory experiments," said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and a former physics teacher. "Because the Next Generation Science Standards specifically recommends the use of digital tools for data collection and analysis, Vernier Summer Institutes provide essential professional development opportunities for science educators."
The six-hour institutes are designed to meet the needs of teachers from a wide variety of grade levels and STEM disciplines, including physics, chemistry, biology, environmental/Earth science, middle school science education, and more. In addition to the training, each participating teacher will receive a Workshop Training Manual on CD; a Vernier lab book or $50 Vernier gift certificate; and more.
The workshops additionally offer attendees the option of earning two (quarter) Graduate Science credit hours through the Portland State University Center for Science Education.
