Vernier Software & Technology Wins Leading Education Awards
Energy-related technologies win Tech & Learning's Awards of Excellence and District Administration's Readers' Choice Top 100 Products Awards
BEAVERTON, Ore., Dec. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Vernier Software & Technology was recently named the winner of two leading education awards for its energy-related STEM offerings. The KidWind Advanced Wind Experiment Kit and its associated lab book, Renewable Energy with Vernier, was named a winner of the 2015 Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence in the New Product category and the Vernier Energy Sensor was named a winner of District Administration's Readers' Choice Top Products for 2015.
"Our energy-related sensors, kits, and lab books engage students in hands-on investigations that teach them key scientific and renewable energy concepts," said John Wheeler, CEO of Vernier Software & Technology. "We are honored to be recognized by both of these leading education awards, especially since the winners were chosen by actual educators who truly understand the impact these technologies can have in a classroom setting."
Tech & Learning's Awards of Excellence honor innovative software, hardware, network, apps, and web-based products that break new ground, as well as those products that have received significant enhancements. A panel of more than 30 educators tested hundreds of entries and chose the winners, including Vernier's KidWind Advanced Wind Experiment Kit and Renewable Energy with Vernier lab book.
Vernier's KidWind Advanced Wind Experiment Kit helps students in grades 7 through college explore advanced aspects of wind turbine technology by testing different blade designs, gear ratios, generators, and devices to measure electrical and weightlifting power. The associated lab book, Renewable Energy with Vernier, contains a wide range of experiments that utilize the kit and address objectives in integrated sciences, physical science, physics, and environmental science.
District Administration's Readers' Choice Top 100 Products awards program informs superintendents and other senior school district leaders about products their colleagues around the country are using to help their districts excel in a variety of areas, such as technology, sustainability, and curriculum instruction. The winners, including the Vernier Energy Sensor, were compiled from 2,100-plus nominations over the past year from the magazine's readers.
The Vernier Energy Sensor offers students an easy way to quantify voltage, current, power, and energy output of small wind turbines and solar panels such as those used in Vernier's KidWind Experiment Kits. To use the sensor, students connect a wind turbine or solar panel to one side and a load, such as the Vernier Variable Load, to the other side. The Vernier Energy Sensor then connects to a computer using an interface or to LabQuest 2. The power and energy output can then be calculated using data-collection and analysis software such as Vernier's Logger Pro or LabQuest App.
