Vernier Software & Technology Launches New Dynamics Cart and Track System for Physics
Teachers and students can easily customize the system using a wide range of accessories to conduct experiments
BEAVERTON, Ore., March 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Vernier Software & Technology's new Dynamics Cart and Track System provides a complete and durable system that can be customized using a wide range of accessories, including fan carts and friction pads, to help teachers and students conduct physics investigations in kinematics and dynamics. The system is ideal for conducting hands-on experiments, such as ones that investigate Newton's second law, acceleration on an inclined plane, conservation of momentum, and more.
The system is comprised of an extruded aluminum dynamics track, two ultra-low friction carts, two adjustable foot levelers, an adjustable end-stop, and four 125 g masses for changing cart mass. Brackets for photogates and a motion detector are included, as are a low-friction pulley and bracket for attachment to the track. The newly designed carts — a standard cart and plunger cart — are easily configurable for different experiments by attaching sensors, changing collision behavior with magnetic or hook-and-pile tabs, or using a spring-loaded plunger. Side mass trays, away from sensors, make it easy to quickly alter total mass. The carts are designed with the student in mind. For example, the carts only roll on the track and will not roll when placed on the table.
"The new next-generation Dynamics Cart and Track System helps students conduct engaging, hands-on investigations while learning key physics concepts," said John Wheeler, CEO of Vernier Software & Technology. "Improving upon the design of our current dynamics system, the new technology provides both teachers and students with an extremely durable, flexible, and customizable solution to collect and analyze a wide array of physics-related data."
The system can be purchased by itself or with the Vernier Motion Encoder System, which allows for capturing accurate repeatable motion data without the noise and setup challenges of a traditional ultrasonic motion detector. Accessories, such as the Bumper and Launcher Kit, Fan Cart, Friction Pad, and more, can be purchased separately. In addition, an entire optics ecosystem can be added to the Dynamics track. Optics equipment includes the Optics Expansion Kit to study lenses, the Mirror Kit, the Color Mixer, and the Diffraction Apparatus.
