Verizon's Jeff Altman Named to Community FoodBank of New Jersey Board of Trustees

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Community FoodBank of New Jersey announced on Tuesday (July 19) that Jeff Altman, director-treasury for Verizon Communications, has been named to the food bank's board of trustees, effective immediately.

Altman, who works at Verizon's Corporate Center in Basking Ridge, will provide general financial guidance for the organization as well as serve as a liaison to Verizon.

"We are delighted that Jeff Altman has joined our board of trustees, and we look forward to working with him and Verizon as The Community FoodBank of New Jersey responds to those struggling with hunger and poverty in our midst," said Richard Brody, the organization's chairman of the board.

The food bank distributes 39 million pounds of food and groceries a year, ultimately serving 1,500 nonprofit programs including 436 programs served by its Partner Distribution Organizations.  Through their combined efforts, they assist 900,000 low-income people in 18 of New Jersey's 21 counties.

Altman, who has been with Verizon since 1992, serves as the company's interface with rating agencies and with segments of the investment community. Prior to his current role, Altman served in a number of finance roles within the company, including risk management and financial planning for Verizon's wireline businesses.  

Altman, who lives in Randolph, graduated from the University of Virginia with a double major in finance and marketing.  He also received an MBA with a concentration in finance from George Mason University.
