Verizon Wireless Surpasses $1 Billion Investment in Arizona
Integration of Verizon Wireless and Alltel networks in the state means greater coverage and capacity for customers
CHANDLER, Ariz., Nov. 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless has passed the $1 billion network investment milestone in Arizona in an effort to provide Grand Canyon state residents and visitors with the premier standard for wireless network performance and reliability.
The ten-year, multi-million dollar annual investment in the state has funded greater network coverage and capacity as well as advanced technologies to enable new services. The company has also readied its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to launch faster wireless data services in the Valley of the Sun later this year.
Nationally, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $60 billion in its network since it was formed – $5.7 billion on average every year.
"The strength of the network is what makes it possible for customers to truly enjoy the features of their devices like making calls, messaging, downloading apps, checking e-mail and surfing the Web," said Brian Danfield, regional president.
"Our focus is on providing the best customer experience, which we know is largely driven by our network, so we will continue investing heavily in our Arizona network to make the experience better every day."
Alltel network integration complete
As part of the $1 billion investment, Verizon Wireless has completed integrating its network with that of Alltel across Maricopa County to provide customers with clearer reception, fewer dropped calls and more coverage, including stronger in-building coverage.
Now, Verizon Wireless offers residents and visitors in Maricopa, Pima, Cochise, Santa Cruz, Graham, Greenlee, Coconino, Yavapai, Yuma and La Paz counties the greater coverage and capacity of nearly 40 percent more cell sites. Verizon Wireless has been working to integrate the Alltel network in the ten counties since completing its purchase of the company last year.
The network upgrade is part of the company's ongoing investment to keep improving and strengthening the nation's largest and most reliable 3G wireless network.
4G LTE launching this year
The company is delivering the world's first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to the Valley of the Sun. The initial availability of a 4G LTE wireless network in greater Phoenix is part of the company's major network launch in 38 major metropolitan areas by the end of the year.
In the greater Phoenix/Valley of the Sun area, the 4G LTE network will extend inside the boundaries of the Loop 101 in the north and central Valley and inside the boundaries of the Loop 202 in the southeast Valley.
