Verizon Ranked No. 4 on Diversity MBA Magazine's List of Best Companies for Diverse Managers
NEW YORK, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Diversity MBA Magazine has ranked Verizon No. 4 on the publication's 2010 list of Top 50 Companies for Diverse Managers to Work, marking the fifth consecutive year that Verizon's commitment to diversity has earned the company a Top 10 ranking on the list.
The magazine also named Verizon among the top companies for board of directors' diversity. Women and people of color constitute nearly half of Verizon's Board of Directors, and they make up nearly 60 percent of the company's workforce.
"We rely on diverse minds to spark innovation in Verizon's networks, products and customer experiences," said Magda Yrizarry, vice president of workplace culture, diversity and compliance for Verizon. "We can only be successful serving customers around the globe with an inclusive business environment where employees are empowered to bring their whole selves - their very best - to work every day. It's an honor to once again have Verizon's commitment to diversity and inclusion recognized by Diversity MBA magazine."
The ranking for the Diversity MBA list is determined by how well companies implement intentional strategies based on accountability, succession planning, representation, retention, and recruitment systems that allow and encourage managers and women of diverse backgrounds to excel and develop into leadership roles.
The complete list of top companies is available at http://diversitymbamagazine.com/50-out-front and will be published in the magazine's spring 2010 issue.
Earlier this year, Verizon's continued efforts to create a diverse workforce and an inclusive work environment again earned the company a ranking on DiversityInc magazine's 2010 list of Top 50 Companies for Diversity.
The company also earned the No. 4 ranking on Training Magazine's Top 125, a list of companies that have the best training programs for their employees. Verizon employees benefitted from 10.5 million hours of training last year to advance their knowledge of a wide range of topics including privacy and security, and to develop the skills needed to deliver the nation's most advanced broadband networks to customers.
