Verizon Employees in Maryland and Washington, D.C. Donate More Than $7,200 in Supplies to Assist Area Schools
Items Collected by Employees During Companywide 'Tools for School' Campaign
BALTIMORE, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon employees at 16 work locations in Maryland and Washington, D.C. collected more than $7,200 worth of items to donate to 13 elementary schools during a recent "Tools for School" drive.
Elementary schools in Maryland receiving the school supplies include Bladensburg, City Springs, Concord, Dogwood, Francis Scott Key, Highland, Laurel Woods, Pleasant Plains, Rolling Terrace and Rosa L. Parks. In the District of Columbia, elementary school recipients include Harriet Tubman, Raymond and Seaton.
Employees at nearly 300 Verizon locations throughout the country took part in the campaign to collect new pens and pencils, rulers, crayons, backpacks and other items children need to start the school year.
In all, employees donated more than $300,000 worth of supplies to more than 250 schools and nonprofits across the U.S., with a specific focus on schools with a large number of students in need.
The public was invited to join the effort by making an online donation through DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit organization that allows contributors to donate to a myriad of education projects at public schools throughout the country.
