Verizon customers in Maryland are the real winners in newest RootMetrics® wireless network performance report

LAUREL, Md., Feb. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon customers in Maryland are enjoying all the benefits of the top performing wireless network in the state, as rated by the new Maryland RootScore^® Report by RootMetrics. RootMetrics is an independent mobile analytics firm that uses off-the-shelf consumer smartphones to test the network capabilities of all four major U.S. wireless carriers in six network performance categories across various geographies.

This marks the third consecutive time Verizon won the Overall RootScore award in Maryland. Verizon also was ranked first in data and speed, and tied for first in reliability, call and text performance.  Additionally, for the fifth consecutive time, Verizon's wireless network has been acknowledged by RootMetrics as the leader in overall performance among national wireless service providers across the U.S. Scores are based on a total 55,847 RootMetrics tests, including 91 indoor locations, across 2,978 miles in Maryland, from July through December 2015.

Verizon continues to enhance its network in Maryland by deploying new technology such as small cells and distributed antenna systems and expanding XLTE coverage, which doubles 4G LTE network bandwidth in cities nationwide, with faster peak speeds and greater capacity than before. In addition, Verizon has aggressively deployed LTE Advanced and carrier aggregation, which uses software to combine multiple network channels running on different spectrum bands into one big pipe, significantly increasing speeds for consumers. 

In the Metro RootScore report series, Verizon also was rated highest for overall performance, reliability, speed, data and call performance in Baltimore. Additionally, Verizon's wireless network was also recognized by RootMetrics as earning the most first place or shared first place rankings among the nation's top airports in the second half of 2015, with 25 Data RootScore Awards, including BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport.
